Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I know a guy who used to run with Ranelagh back then. I should ask him about how it all came about.....you must all have seen the original photo of the first start?

I know the fella who finished third at the first one, strangely I've never asked him about it!

I recall very similar graphics for course description for the first Leeds parkrun (or the Hyde Park Time Trial (HPTT)) as it was known then.

Going back a page or two. I've run Clonakilty. Lovely participants/volunteers but course is 3 laps of gravel path round a small industrial estate. Rather ironic given it's location in close proximity to stunning western Ireland coastal scenery.

But once HPTT came about that was several years down the line and several other events already existed. I could see that graphic as being one produced at that point for the Bushy event when they had developed the Time Trial branding, it just doesn't seem to fit with the mythology of the first Bushy event and how PSH told a few people down the club to come along and he'd hold the stopwatch.

Re looking at the poster I think that the "inaugural event 2nd October 2004" is actually more of a statement of an historical fact. There is no way PSH put that phrase on the poster when 2nd October 2004 was still in the future. parkrun HQ are misrepresenting the poster as being publicity for the first event, it's just a poster promoting it from a couple of years later saying how long they have been going for.

"Run it hard, test yourself, race your mates" Isn't this now deemed as counter-revolutionary?

RD at Bedford today. We had a complaint from a muggle who was sworn at by a runner. *sigh*
