Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Enjoy the Chettis - presumably enboldened by ‘spring fever’

I’m off out on chiffchaff patrol again shortly ;-)

DT, given that it was in the grounds of a university, it may have been drugs rather than spring fever which was responsible. :)

the lone ranger of the bird world?

Run around Youlgreave this morning, lots of skylarks, chiffchaffs, nuthatch and by the River Bradford grey wagtail, pair of mergansers and a dipper flying by.

It’s a Reeves Pheasant apparently. I vaguely knew what a Golden Pheasant was plus Lady Amethyst’s (sp?). Reeves followed me I think expecting to get fed and it was making some amazing sounds :-)

First time I saw it (I think I’ve seen it three times now) I was genuinely thinking wtf?!

Wheatears arrived en masse here and chiffs singing everywhere according to local birders’ blogs

Chrisity Mergansers are a pretty rare sighting in Derbyshire, single figure sightings per year I believe. Youlgreave and the River Bradford is much more a Goosander enviroment but if you're confident they were Mergansers DOS are likely to be interested.
