Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Story 1 completed and I've scraped the ice off the whelmometer and it's definitely higher than 'whelm'

Good to hear. I've tapped mine and it is still obstinately stuck on 'whelmed'.

It is possibly the most 7/10 book I've read all year.

It's 7/10-ness personified. Well, bookified.

I have a question about the second story. I don't read much detective fiction so I'm not used to the grammar of such things, but what is the significance of the key at the end? Gabriel has returned the 'wrong' key. So Morrisey orders the girl to relabel it. Is this there just so PD James can identify the husband at the end? We already know Gabriel did it, but are we being told he was in collusion with the husband?

Er... SPOILER ALERT for those who haven't read it...

I thought it was just to set up the reveal rather than being a plot point in and of itself.

It was that line about him 'always having a funny relationship with that flat' though of course that could just mean 'because his cheating wife was murdered there'
