Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Hey there pop pickers. It's the November 2017 Book Group Book. These are the platters that matter.

For Juke Box Jury this week it's Magnus Mills' Magnum Opus, The Field of the Cloth of Gold.

If you've read it, perhaps you'd be a delightful little sausage and review it. Below.

I liked this. It wasn’t what I expected. I thought it a rather enjoyable storm in a perfectly round teacup but it was interesting on the power of the norm and the ending was perfect just as it was. Very well crafted, quite absorbing, pleased I read it, but reserving my tens for the books I can’t get enough of and can’t put down :-)

This was what I expected but then that’s because I’ve read and loved a lot of Magnus Mills.

They don’t always hit the spot for me but this one really did. Maybe it was the luxury of being able to read it in one sitting but I didn’t want to put it down anyway.

And I really liked the ending :)

Not sure Magnus Mills is my cup of tea. Didn't dislike it, but didn't particularly like it either. It just didn't do anything.

Why was everyone going to camp in this field? Alderbaran (or whatever his name was) & crowd left because their supply chain fell down, but there was never any mention of where any of the other campers got their supplies.

Lol at Westmoors' comment. That's Magnus Mills for you. In one of his other books, everyone lives on a featureless plain and there is no indication of where any supplies come from, although the characters keep drinking coffee.

That made me laugh too Westmoors. It’s also why it was 200 pages not war and peace: it was a distilled principle plus occasional biscuits :-)
