I got excited by the stout - but unless 0.5% is a typo that's right out.

Fair point Boab - but for us at the 'alcoholic' end of the spectrum there's a need for single-mindedness. The Big Book has a story about this which I suspect I've wheeled out before: Language and social norms are of their time, and may seem odd if you aren't used to the Big Book but I think the underlying point is clear: Here is a case in point: One of our friends is a heavy smoker and coffee drinker. There was no doubt he over-indulged. Seeing this, and meaning to be helpful, his wife commenced to admonish him about it. He admitted he was overdoing these things, but frankly said that he was not ready to stop. His wife is one of those persons who really feels there is something rather sinful about these commodities, so she nagged, and her intolerance finally threw him into a fit of anger. He got drunk. Of course our friend was wrong—dead wrong. He had to painfully admit that and mend his spiritual fences. Though he is now a most effective member of Alcoholics Anonymous, he still smokes and drinks coffee, but neither his wife nor anyone else stands in judgment. |

I’m in the position of historically loving beer but not being that bothered about other alcoholic drinks. I’ve ‘calibrated’ my thinking to say 0.5% is okay (for me) but there’s a part of me that’s not 100% happy at that. I had a geeky burst of trying many non / lo alcoholic beers a few weeks ago (day 60 today) but many aren’t better than drinking tea or coffee for me. I’m currently thinking about having the occasional no / lo as ‘a treat’ like normal drinkers maybe have a glass of wine with Sunday dinner (but not two bottles on a school night!)

Nice, Tupso. I had two bottles of Becks Blue at the theatre last Saturday and felt a complete rebel.

I too got excited by the stout but unless it hasn't even ever contained alcohol its not for me. I got a few nice drinks bought me on Friday when I left my job, along with a big vegan snackbox that I'm working my way through. I also got a card from my boss that was written in Yorkshire dialect and ended with the line 'Thas alreet for a teatotal vegan'. First day of unemployment tomorrow, I think I'll keep a clear head and stay off the booze. |

Goid plan. I shall be back off it for the next 10-12 days. Then we’ll take it a day at a time.

I used to see a lad at football who’s dad was a publican and an alcoholic - dad would go on the wagon (because his doctor told him if he didn’t he’d die and quite soon) but after a few weeks he ‘just have a shandy’. Before long it’s be a lager-top and down the slippery slope from there (again) There’s a big part of me that genuinely wants to stop, and as of now I have. Question is do I want to drink in effect faux beer? |

That’s the thing about the Sole Star DT - it is actually brewed to 0.9%, rather than having the alcohol removed.
