Out and back so you get to see everyone after the switch back. Dave and Melanie Ross who organise it and the other Hermes races have run over 500 marathons between them so know what is needed. There are enough aid stations but if it is really hot and you likely to be out awhile a camelbak might be an idea

The path is shared by pedestrians but is not too busy. There is usually a few more people around when you get to Putney (half-way) and Richmond when on the way back.

Support on the course is low key, but more than sufficient. Have no hesitation in recommending the half. Not sure I would do the marathon but that's just the because route wouldn't excite me that much.
