Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Running jackets - worth it?

I have seen a couple of Ronhill jackets on the cheap: the aspiration and the vizion windlight. Are they worth purchasing? I have a high-vis jacket I wear in the dark and a light waterproof I wear in the pouring rain. Really, a new jacket should supercede this old waterproof. Are either any good at actually keeping you dry?

I don't think any running jacket is any good at keeping you dry, is it?

No matter how technical the fabric they just can't cope with the sweat that a runner produces.

Dry from the outside I mean really. If its that cold (e.g. deep winter training) I don't tend to sweat that much anyways.

If it is both cold and raining I'd give it a miss actually. Cold is OK, rain is OK, but both together no thanks.

I don't mind it once I'm out. Its the getting out bit that I struggle with.

Hiya mave - I'd say that a waterproof jacket has to contain gortex, these jackets are probably only suited to very wet and cold weather . Otherwise running jackets at the best are only shower proof - so we know on a decent run we are going to get wet.

I'd be inclined to spend a bit extra on an OMM Kamleika jacket for really manky weather. Keeps the rain out reliably *and* doesn't rustle :)

I have a fantastic old Altura cycling jacket made from fabric that is deemed too heavy for running jackets to be made from these days. If you can find something more usually used for hill-walking, I'd go for that.

I have a nice Ronhill jacket that is waterproof, but unless it's sub-zero it's far too hot for running in. I go for a long sleeved top and a windproof gilet if the weather is bad.
