Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Firstly, if you want to run less to run faster, you have to question your reasons for running.

Secondly, if you could run faster for less miles, why aren't Haile and Paula doing a weekly recipe of 40 miles a week plus legs, bums and tums 3 nights a week?

I can see it could make you faster - particularly if you're someone who doesn't already follow a structured training programme - but ultimately, more miles = faster times. Less running at a faster pace leads to more injuries.

And a plantar fasciitis cure in 5 minutes? Bloody hell, I wish...!

Rach, I got rid of my shoes and *whispers* orthotics to rid myself of PF. Racing flats with no arch support, and almost instant relief. Different reasons for it of course.

And totally agree with the Haile/Paula (and add every other elite distance runner in the world) statement.

I think you are all beastly. Looky here now:

"The book ends with a bonus section on how to qualify/train for the Boston Marathon. Additionally, you get an Appendix A (pacing table) and an Appendix B (how to calculate pacing). "

can't be bothered to read back on this one...just to echo the following;

if running less makes you faster then why don't the worlds elite athletes do this?

The only way I can see this working is for the 'club runner' who constantly trains too hard...you know the sort. The runner who trains at race pace and wonders why they can't get any faster. As soon as they ease off a little, the body does the adaptions and hey-presto...they get quicker.

I would hazzard a guess that if you had two runners of similar ability and experience. Trained one using the "Run Less, Run Faster" method and the other is given a proper structured training program one they will both make some progress but the one with the structured training program will eventually make the biggest improvements.

That said...it's horses for courses...not everyone has the time or will to progress their run training to 50/60 plus miles per week.

About This Thread

What do we think, guys?

Cut and paste from a review on Amazon:
_____________________________________________

The book is for anyone who wants to improve their running performance and is divided into 4 sections. The first section explains the FIRST approach, where a "3 plus 2" format is the foundation. This means you have 3 quality runs each week and 2 cross training workouts.

The second section is how to follow the program. Briefly, one day is a cross training day, then a "track repeats" day, then a cross training day, then a "tempo run" day, a day of rest, a "long run" day, and then either another rest day/or optional cross training day. Cross training days include activities such as cycling or swimming.
