Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Come on @Chrisull, Yates was a lot different from O'Connor. Anyway back to you can't take the extraordinary as normal. How do you make predictions that a rider might get a podium if they are given a load of time in a break? We're talking about comparison with other riders on an even playing field.

Yes Onley is worth talking about, first yesterday, second the day before, he's looking very good. Will be interesting to see what his level is at the Tour.

O'Connor is joint 12th in the odds at 200/1 for the win.

Interesting Cheg, after day 1 he was 151/1 and more like 9th or 10th, so punters obviously not liking what they're seeing. I wouldn't have risked at 151/1 even at E/W.

I think it's all highly hypothetical, barring accident it's some variation of Pog, Vin and Remco. And yes Almeida as the next best alternative. (Did I see Rog's name in the prices? If so make him 5th) Lipowitz and Jorgenson also up there, is Skjelmoose too much of a classics guy ? but he's young and in form. Mas, Carapaz, Yates all good shouts for top 10. I don't rate Gall or Gaudu. O'Connor weighs in ahead of those 2 for me (which is all along was an outside shot of a podium when weird things happen). Plus his breakaway ability to not just get in a breakaway but on shorter difficult mountain stages, open up large gaps.

But yes perhaps we should be looking at these young Brits like Onley (and Poole) breaking things open, they won't be marked in the same way.

If Roglic finishes don't think he will be lower than 4th, I want to say third but Evenepoel at last year's level will be good competition. Almeida is improving but not seen that level and if he has to do dom work, he'll be compromised. Guess his chances depend on how good Vingegaard is.

Jerome Pineau seems to think Vingegaard starts as favourite(!):

Interesting take (I'm not arguing either way, just thought it was a different view)

I think it's fair enough to believe that Vingegaard can end up better than Pogacar at the Tour; we've never seen Vingegaard Vs Pogacar in a Tour warm up race so we don't know their respective levels and how they build (I've said I would expect Vingegaard to gain more than Pogacar in the build up to the Tour based on their previous race schedules). I don't think you can say Vingegaard is favourite right now on the balance of evidence though. If Vingegaard wins this year, then we have evidence for next year if the same happened (in the same way that the evidence from last year is a positive for not panicking about Evenepoel's form for the Tour at this point)

In fantasy if I can only have one of the big two in my team it has to be Pog.

It will be interesting to see if Pogacar can end up at a price that would make you reconsider that. Think he was 28 last year, wonder if he can go up from that.

Yeah if he was 28 I think Vingegaard would be 26. I’d like to see the player who went into the Tour without either of them.
