Polar RS300X - please reassure me it's quite straightforward to use!

I have just bought a Polar RS300x to replace my aging Garmin Forerunner 101. I thought it was a watch and GPS all built in. How easy is it to get to grips with? I'm only 39 but finding "new" technology hard to understand.
