how come there's no big outcry about the New York Giants game going ahead today? 82500 spectators are expected along with police and ambulance services. Could it be because they are professional sportsmen?

The Giants play in New Jersey which is another reason why they are going ahead with their game. Not part of the city so under different jurisdiction.

Great seeing runners staying on to help the aid effort. guardian.co.uk

I am a bit emotional at the moment, so I am not going to direct the comments I would like to, at the usual grumps in here.

Hi Tikka, yes, I did - 3.39. It was a pretty amazing experience, seemed mainly to be those in fundraising vests and from all corners of the world. Since I am actually here in NY, and surrounded by these so-called selfish runners who need to 'get over it' I believe I'm in a position to state that I have not heard one single complaint about the fact that it was cancelled, just the handling of it. I didn't fly out until Friday afternoon and heard the news whilst in a 3 hour immigration queue to be fingerprinted and photographed. What took place today was people coming together to fulfill what they felt were their obligations to their various causes. Donations were made to the relief effort and directed where requested/needed most. The support was wonderful and no one was angry at the thousands doing their unofficial marathon. Every conversation I have heard or had has not in any way been purely about people's 'wasted effort' or anything like that. Perhaps you are getting different news or opinions there, but it certainly isn't the consensus here.
