Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I was told (I have had this several times) *gentle* mobilisation. Ie keep it moving but don't hurt yourself. If the muscle is tight then keep it warm, heat pad or wheat bag or just a scarf.

It's horrid. Hope it feels better soon. Prob worth seeing phys to work out preventing it again xx

I had something similar to this a while ago & found one of those Thermacare heat wraps on my neck all day did really help ease it. Hope it gets better soon for you. Nothing worse when you have a sore stiff neck.

I can get a fizz appt at 3, but not sure whether this is a waste of ££ and whether it will go, or whether they can fix me.

Any views on the fizz/osteo debate for this?

my pref would be fizz over osteo at the mo. and yes, worth getting looked at. they can't 'fix' you immediately, but might be able to help. and could give some advice on preventing it. (this is one of the many many reasons I detest cycling. it kills my neck and shoulders)

I wouldn't see an osteoporosis if you paid me.
Physio might help, it may get better quicker, but it will almost certainly get better on it's own.

I had the same a good few weeks ago, was so painful that I went to see my GP. She immediately diagnosed me with Cervical Dystonia and referred me to a Physio. Have had 10 Physio sessions now, which do work, but not enough. The last 2 sessions included Acupuncture, nasty stuff but the effect lasted longer than the Physio treatment. Have now been given a referral to a back specialist, who I will see on Thursday next week - really hoping that he can help mobilising and take my pain away. :(

Good luck, really hope you won't suffer for too long.

It depends on the type of Osteo/Physio more than which one you should see. You want a therapist who will treat the trigger points and reduce the tone, and work out why it's happening as well. Stumpy is right about about heat and moving within pain.

I had a very stiff neck when I started cycling, although I don't cycle anywhere near the distance you do, GF, I found regular stretching and a new pillow (memory foam and contoured) totally sorted it. I also got Fetch to treat the trigger points.

Hmm, ok, will see the fizz then. My neck has never hurt before this week, and I've done no more than normal. Most strange.
