Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Although it rained, god did it rain, I want to do it again :-)

The Newbury Tri is a lovely course, warm swimming pool completed in 10.12. Wonderful Bike route, completed in 1.32.46 but I had a puncture in my back tyre and tried to fix it myself but my Angel "Brian" and his lovely dog turned up and asked if I needed help, so for 28 minutes he took over and repaired the puncture. I feel it could have been roughly a time of 1.05, which is what I had expected. My run, wasn't good with feeling fed up about the puncture and my legs were feeling rubbish, well both calves hurt, so I ran walked and came in at 45.04!

The first transition was interesting with wet costume and the rain and putting dry clothes on to become instantly wet, I might as well have just cycled in my costume :-o so by the time I had flaffed around making sure I had everything it took 8 minutes or so, and on the second transition this was only 1 minute something and quicker than Mr C because I didn't need to change my shoes :-)

So is this the first of many for me, I'll be back to do this one again and will be tempted to try new ones too :-)

Very well done!! I bet you are still smiling today. Those swim and bike times are not bad and will improve massively with some training over the Winter. Is the next challenge a sprint/ 750m/20k/5k??? Isn't 300m hardly worth getting wet for?
I guess we are both at the end of our first tri seasons. :) I hoping to meet up with some of the more experienced trathletes from the Smell of 220 Hotel Bastardos thread in May at Eton/ Dorney Lake. I'm hoping to do the Sprint. You coming?

good work E! There's nothing like running through a car park in your swimming costume, in the rain.

Thank you guys :-)

I'm still happy about it and have been looking at Tri's for next year :-) Wazzelle, I'll have a look at the Eton/Dorney Lake Tri in May, but I might prefer to keep to swimming pools for the moment.

I'll make sure I swim more over the winter, keep my running mileage up and learn how to repair a puncture on my very own and see how I'm feeling come Spring next year :-)

Hello. Is this the beginners tri thread?

I've just entered the Mates Wave Super Sprint at Dorney on 21t May. It will be my first tri, and to date I've done one open water swim so lots to learn.

A rookie question... how many times a week do you do each discipline? When do you rest?

I think as a starter I would do 2/3 swims 3 bike 3 runs

So a typical week would like

Mon Swim shortish/or rest

Tuesday Run faster one tempo/speed

weds Bike 1 hour

Thursday Swim longer Run Short 30 mins easy

Friday bike 1 hour

Sat Bike Longer 60-90 mins (after a few weeks put a small brick run of 10-15 mins)

Sunday longer run 60 mins

But this is very general but if I knew the distances you were training for I could be more specific. It is time consuming but fitness Definately improves

Thank you again.

I'm only doing SuperSprint Triathlon: 400m Swim, 21.2km Bike, 5km Run. Bike is my weakest discipline.
Until the end of October I have very little time to do anything except work and breathe, but from November I'll have a bit more time to devote to some focused training.
Ideally I need two leg-rest days minimum each week to avoid injury.

I've imagined that swimming on the same day as either run or bike wouldn't be a problem.
