A recent review of inflammation and tendon repair concludes that ‘the basis for using anti-inflammatory medication to treat tendon overuse seems limited’. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

The authors report that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAID’s which include ibriprofen) may decrease blood flow to the tendon by about 30%; NSAID’s taken before exercise decrease prostaglandin concentration in the tendon for up to 3 days, and resulted in impaired collagen synthesis. However, the situation in the elderly (>65) appears to be different: In elderly people NSAIDs did NOT impair training related tendon adaptations.
