Wriggling Snake
On Sunday I made Roast Chicken with Roast potatoes, bread sauce, cabbage and carrots, I also made proper gravy in the roasting pan. I then followed up with Meringues filled wth strawberries with Creme Fraiche.
I had run a 5 mile race and walked aroung the local park for 5 miles beforehand, but sod it eh!

I've just measured all the stuff I use to make sweet potato beany bake, when I usually do it a bit more off the cuff: a splosh here, a handful of cheese there, a bit of butter... erm. It's not nearly as healthy than I thought it was

The portion control thing has got to be the point surely. Home-made food (generally) tastes much better than processed stuff and although you can fill your fridge with little tupperware boxes of left-overs, mostly (in this house anyway) we just have seconds (thirds?:-o) and polish it off. Ready meals are rarely that generous.

Depends what you're cooking though. Our home cooking has got more fattening since we had kids - the eldest is a good eater but in constant danger of falling down a grid. They need a higher fat and more nutrient dense diet. Now the beggars are growing up a bit we are trying to change back to something healthier for adults too. Cedd will have to have supplementary lard after school or waste away or summat.

I agree with leaguefreak that home cooking gets less healthy when you have children. I switched from skimmed milk to full fat, added butter and cheese to food etc etc. Both children are really thin - 13 and 17 - and if I want to cook 'a' meal and sit down and eat as a family it is too calorific for the adults unless they eat a tiny portion.
