According to the radio, a study suggests that standing around cooking your own food is worse for you than popping down to McD's... apparently it's to do with being less active and overcompensating for the health benefits of fresh food (that'd be eating too much!) What exercise can I do at the same time as cooking? Or do I just make nastier food? |

I suspect that's true. From what I saw when working in Birmingham, the biggest levels of obesity in middle age were in communities which retained a strong culture of home cooking. Walking to the shops and carrying back bagfuls of vegetables and stuff should help with exercise |

I suppose it depends on what you are cooking. When I cook for myself (I think) it is generally quite healthy food. Lots of stirfrys, casseroles and soups. I cook most things from scratch and rarely buy processed food or ready meals. Surely that must be better than eating out all the time???

Surely it's not the act of home-cooking? Portion control might be the issue..!??!

would that study be financed by the food industry and supermarkets perhaps?

Definitely a survey paid for by someone with a vested interest! How do they define 'home cooking'? Heating up ready meals? Maybe a bit of meat with some processed sauce from a jar?

I think 'health' surveys are bad for our health.
