Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Have you ever had to pull out?

I've never run 39 miles, and respect to your mate for getting that far. But 61 miles to go is a big ask if you feel you've had enough. Maybe he could have dragged himslef through the last 10/15, but not 61.

He has run 50 miles before and is planning a track 24 hour race so he is not right in the head to start off with. But this was more a general question to anyone.

Now I think about it - I did have to pull out once.

It was the Cambridge Boundary Run. In about 1978. Aged 20. Having never run more than about 5 miles in one go previously I did not think 27 miles of cloggy mud in the wet and cold would be that much of a problem.

Got to about 13 miles and was utterly spent. Chafed, bleeding, exhausted, starving, cold, and now I think back on it I realise I should never have started.

several times, the most recent a couple of weeks ago, when I had to pull ot of the ashby 20 after 3 miles having damaged a hamstring at a fell race the previous day.

The only 2 events that haunt me though are The Fellsman and the Lakeland 100 (3 DNFs!), but back again this year to finish it.

Fortunately I have never been in this position, but it must be awful.
