Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

There was an article in Runners World this month about the Hansons' Less-is-more plan. Has anyone tried it? What was it like? There are 6 days running, and the longest long run is 16 miles

I've just read this article this morning, sounds pretty full on (6days training) and defo higher than I could cope with mileage. Interesting though!

I'm guessing that it won't work if you need to include 2-3 rest days a week because the programme is designed to teach your legs to run at MP when tired.

I'll go and see if I can find it. I'm nowhere near that kind of time, but it did sound interesting. I know what you mean about the rest days VJ, the RW program has 2 I think. I find the number of possible training programmes baffling; too much choice.

There is a thread on RW forum re this by a guy who's been sticking to it for some time now. I'm tmpted to try it, but as i've just entered my 1st marathon i'm worried about my longest run being 16 mile. How will I know if I can run 26??

That ain't an 'easy' training plan, very, very, full on.

Still don't think you can go far run with two steady runs, one tempo or intervals (maybe alternate week to week) and one long run at the weekend.

I note that this thread appears to have been short lived for something which appears so different. I am in training for a sporing marathon and have had differing views from people about this program. I started the beginners program just after christmas and my only concern thus far is that there doesn't appear to be a lot of mileage for marathon training.

I am however aware that the mileage does step up along with six sessions a week which as mentioned above it designed to get you running on tired legs (apparently!) but having never gone the full distance before I am somewhat also concerned about not going any further than 16 miles in training. Has anyone else had any sort of use out of this program since the last posting or indeed trained to run any big distances using the program as written?

I don't want to get sixteen miles in and hit an early 'wall'!

Welcome to fetch!

If I remember rightly, the article was by a chap who had done a few marathons, but wanted to go faster. I don't know if this makes a difference. I felt that it wasn't for me as I do need a couple of rest days a week. I think I'd be happier with a few longer runs for my first mara, but that may just be because it's what is expected. And the last 6 miles ARE the hardest so if you're already used to running on tired legs it may well work.

I believe the theory behind is was you already can (he assumes you are not a beginner) run 10 miles
So why concentrate on the "first 10", it's the last 16 you need to train for.

Not tried it myself, but not run or entered a marathon yet.....next year though!
