That's a really good point GM. When should you revise target times for the sessions. I have to admit I'd planned on keeping the schedule as is until target race.

I wouldn't be inclined to change session paces very often, but I know that today's 5k time is a better reflection of my typical pace than last week's. As I've only just begun to follow the plan, I think I'd be taking the easy option if I leave the paces slower and there's not much point in doing that.

GM- Fantastic effort
Fen- I'm not sure but I think you should change if you are finding all sessions too "comfortable". I am gradually lowering tempo times and intervals but still find it difficult to reach the Furman LR times.

I don't think mentioning the word 'comfortable' is ever appropriate for me in relation to FIRST. But perhaps that is because I've spent the majority of the time training in the last eight years in the 'grey' comfortable zone.

You should change paces when you have done a 5K test like parkrun, and your times have gone down.
Lalli, really sorry to hear that. Hope it heals quickly. Would anyone else like to take over thread admin? Anyone who is doing Furman and happy to just look out for results and update the header/side bar every now and again?
Volunteers? Thanks, G

Lalli- Get well soon.
Long run. Cut back to 8 miles to see if I can hit the Furman paces for longer than two miles:
8:34 8:17 8:19 8:06 7:26 7:13 7:04 7:14
Well....getting better I suppose. In my defence, it was very windy...

Third marathon of the year and missed sub-4 by a few seconds, but last bit I was storming at 7:06 average pace. Loved it, I fought the mud and the wind and very nearly won

The wind has a lot to answer for this weekend but think of the extra resistance training. You'll be even more ready to go sub 4 next time, FR. That's quite an impressive increase in speed with each mile, des. The Furman App says to start slower and increase speed during the long run - you certainly did that!

Nice progressive run there des - that's not a Furman run though, is it?
FR, congrats on another cracking 4 hour marathon. What's 6 seconds in the grand scheme of things?! G

Fen- Well done! I can only admire anyone who manages three marathons in two months.
Happy- No, you're right. I should be hitting 7:10 ish in these Furman LRs. But, Saturdays I have two hours of martial arts and on Sundays, when I do my LR, I'm usually a little tired and it takes, well, 4 miles or so before I can reach the times. So, it appears I have inadvertently turned the LR into a progressive run!
