Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'd almost forgotten what DOMS felt like.

Half marathon on Sunday. 11 mins slower than PB and 6 mins slower than a couple years ago. But the fastest I can do at this time, hence.... DOMS! Ouchy, ouch! That's what happens if you don't train and then try and push in a race!

So... remind me, how long do I wait for it to go away? And can I run on it? Calves mainly, a wee bit of hams, quads / ITB. Be OK to just jog won't it, as long as I'm not up on my toes?

Done a bit of foam roller last night (agony compared to normal when I'm usually OK to put full weight on). And a bit of heat rub, and cold on them, usual stuff. Any other tips?! :-) G

It's raining. I'm not even going to jog. I might just gym tonight instead. Not cos I'm a lazy, run-shirking, rain-fearty, scaredy wimps, but because of physiology n recovery n stuff. :-) G

Usually only after marathons and take about a week to go away. If I've pushed myself too hard over a shorter distance then DOMS may make an appearance. In the case of the latter, sometimes lasting up to four days.

Coming back into this running thing, I am redeveloping old muscles so DOMS has become a regular thing

The roller thing does seem to help but I do well above and below the pain.

Foam roller again tonight - hopefully ready to run tomorrow. Who would have thought there would be DOMS again?! :-) G

Bloody downhill wrecks my quads. The DOMS are receding but were painful on Monday.

I would agree FR, but multiple sub 7 min per mile downhill (not sub 7 overall, but lots of the downhill miles were!) didn't seem to cause me too much quad prob. It's calves for me. Must have been up on my toes!

Actually though, you are probably talking about steep downhill and possibly offroad? Whereas this was fairly gentle, downhill pavements and road. It was more about not having done anything at that pace for a while that has caused me probs, rather than the gradient, I think.

Eased a bit now. Will go for a lunch time joglet in the rain today to see how I feel. Will keep it short and slow. :-) G

I have cycling DOMs. I logged 51 cycling miles last week. Not huge for some, I know, but more than I have ever done before.
