Hi, I did a thread search and was surprised to find no discussions of this watch brand. Having just acquired a Coros Apex 42 mm I thought I would start a thread for tips, help and experience with this brand.

Yesterday I tried following a course imported from strava via Garmin. This seems to drain the battery quite quickly relatively to normal. I had a 10% warning with about an hour left to run, and the watch estimated that there was 2 hours of gps left. I thought I would try ultramax mode but the watch told me I couldn't navigate and ultramax at the same time. Made it home with 3% left!
In hindsight I might have expected this. lesson learnt: don't be blasé about battery level if you're heading into unknown terrain and will need the watch to find your way out!

How much battery did you have to start the run with? It would be interesting to compare with Garmin. I did a 5hour run today with full GPS and a course with TbT running. I also had audio playback on for about 2 of those hours. I started with 95% and got down to just under 50%. To be honest on my 945 the audio kills it far more that the TBT.

I'm sorry but I don't know for sure, but in the teens. Today I plan a two-hour run following a course so I will note the battery consumption.
The coros has a nice widget that shows what is using power. Having the backlight on uses a lot of power so I have set this to auto, roughly meaning on gesture after sunset.

Ok today I ran a trail run of 17 km in just over two hours. I followed a course nearly all the time. The zoom was changed quite often between grids of 200, 10 and 50 m. Compared wirh a Fenix, which does not auto-centre a zoomed course, I found it easier to use, but I can imagine this is tough on the battery. It used about 10% on an Apex 42mm.

I'm happy with the consistency of the elevation gains measured by th Apex. I think they are fairly consistenr eith a Fenix 5. My SO's Vivoactive 3 is way over though.

Today I tried out the new training calendar feature on the Apex. This is available since the last software update.
Yesterday I created a simple workout consisting of 1 km warmup, 10 km at marathon pace, and 1 km cooldown. I then entered that on the training calendar for today. Secondly, I created a new route for me for this workout. I then synced the workout, calendar entry and toute to the watch.
Today, ready to go, I selected «run». I was given the yes/no option to follow today's calendar session. I chose «yes» and then tried to start up the route navigation. I had a message that it was not possible to do a workout and navigate at the same time. So I had to cancel the workout in favour of navigation, and ran the session using the lap key, since I needed the nav.
I'm slightly disappointed that you can't follow a breadcrumb trail and do a planned workout at the same time, but I suppose planned workouts are in practice usually done in known locations. The calendar functioned as it should, and the workout function worked as it should on previous occasions. I'm still happy with the watch overall and I prefer it to my Fenix 5 on the whole.

Just got an Apex 46mm on Monday more as a replacement for my Series 2 Apple Watch that's a wear everyday one and getting a bit tired, I have a Suunto Spartan Wrist HR Baro also which I normally use for runs especially if following a route.
Not managed a run this week so far but Apex is still on 95% battery from 100% Monday midday!
Intrigued to see how the Apex measures up against the Suunto over time?

First run out with the Apex yesterday. Started at 88%, did 7.5 miles with nav on so it was maxing battery use, finished with 84% left.
Liked the way you can zoom in/out on the nav page, Suunto is route or location only. Was a bit more jittery though when bringing wrist up to read location, although it settled fairly quickly. If you really need it for direction slowing / pausing should make it fine.
Can't pause if you're on the nav or one of the other screens so bit of faff to swap to a screen you can pause on.

Yeah, you need to hold your forearm at right angles to the direction of travel to get the pointer right. Also I have read that it helps to calibrate the compass but I couldn’t swear by that.
