A 2017 thread for anyone bored of counting along the x-axis :) I suspect it may just be me that cares about the up, but who knows? :) Runners, cyclists, swimmers (!) all welcome!

I racked up 47 miles of up last year, so fell a bit short. Am hoping life in hillier surroundings and the motivation boost from life in hillier surroundings is enough to get me to the magic 52 :)

I don't measure vert when walking and running, but would be happy to play along on the bike.

Oh gosh at first thought you meant actually walls or mountains and was thinking that's a lot

No idea what my figures would be but could be interesting to find out.

Woo, welcome!

I've read your bike blogs, V'rap, I like that the nerdy numbers bit always has ascent :)

I don't keep a tally when I'm actually doing climbing either, but it wouldn't be difficult to start totting it up.

Yeah, you're right - 'climb' isn't the right word, Night-owl! It's the 'ascent' number in the run report I was thinking of, but if there are any insane rock climbers on Fetch, they are also more than welcome :)

strava does it, V'rap - that was how I got my 47 miles for last year. Takes a bit of clicking to find it.

Can you point is in the right direction of where you'd find it on strava?

I might! On a PC ..

1. Click the strava icon on the top right
2. Click your photo/avatar icon
3. Scroll down
4. Soon, it'll say 'My stats'; scroll a bit further
5. Then, you'll see 2016 (or 2017, if you're reading this in the future)
6. Beneath that 'Elev Gain' is the up/ascent/climb you've achieved in 2016 (or whatever year is selected - you can check previous years)

The cycling ascent is easy to track and add up - it all gets downloaded on to strava and free-texted into Fetch. But when I go indoor climbing I usually only write a rough summary of the session, with grades but not metres ascended. Since I know the heights of the various walls at the places we usually climb, it wouldn't be that difficult to include the numbers provided I made notes within a few hours of finishing the session. It's only going to be around 200 metres at a time, but it all counts.

The Y-axis botherers of 2017 :)

Running or cycling or (somehow!) swimming uphill in 2017. Monkey people with the ropes and whatnot also very welcome.

Customised targets are the way to go here, depending on fitness and targets and geography and mode of propulsion. Good luck all :)
