We are excited to announce the launch of our bi-annual People Engagement Survey which will go live on Tuesday, April 1. This year, we've streamlined the survey to include only 15 questions, making it quicker and easier to complete.

Ours is cancelled this year. I think they didn't like the results.

Over the last few months, I have been working with [important people with large salaries] to identify what and who we are as a College community, what are we hoping to achieve for our students, ourselves, and the external community we engage with. What similarities and strengths do we have as a College in what we teach, what we research and how we engage with the wider community. We are looking to identify the golden thread that runs throughout the College which we can extend and develop as a whole College community.

I thought “North Star” was the latest management consultant buzz word? Golden thread is a good one

Once the management at my former employer hears about 'golden thread' they're bound to pick that up and drop 'north star'

The terms "North Star" and "Golden Thread" are often used metaphorically, with "North Star" representing a guiding vision or long-term goal, while "Golden Thread" signifies the cohesive narrative or underlying purpose that connects actions and decisions to that vision.
Here's a more detailed explanation: North Star: Represents a distant, overarching goal or vision that an organization or project aims to achieve.
It provides direction and focus, helping to guide decision-making and ensure that efforts are aligned with the ultimate objective.
Think of it as the "what" - the end result or desired state.
Golden Thread: Represents the cohesive narrative or underlying purpose that connects every activity, decision, and outcome throughout a project or organization.
It ensures that actions are aligned with the North Star and contribute to the overall vision.
Think of it as the "how" - the process or method used to achieve the North Star.
It emphasizes coherence, continuity, and clarity, highlighting the importance of understanding the underlying unity or purpose behind complex systems or narratives.
Examples: In education, the Golden Thread might be a school's core values or a student's aspirations.
In project management, the Golden Thread can be the link between project goals, strategic objectives, and risk profiles.
In building safety, the Golden Thread is the continuous flow of information throughout the design, construction, and operation of a building.
