I think how hard 50 press-ups in two minutes is is probably dependent on what else they have to do as part of the fitness test?
Certainly if I don't do my minute of planking in my workout set, the press-ups are a lot easier.

Just timed my latest set of 50, a minute exactly. Given I'm 58 and that takes me to over 400 for the day so far (in addition to a set of pull-ups, 200 sit-ups and a 5 and a half mile run in the snow) I'd suggest any prospective marine who can't do 50 in two minutes needs packing off to the catering corp asap!

FF, I'm pretty sure you could kick the average marine's butt on any press-up or running challenge.

Is that the fitness test to join or the one for serving Marines?
I read something a while back where the test for entry is set to weed out the people who will never reach the required level of fitness, not the ones who aren't there now. I'd bet most serving marines could do more than 50 in 2 minutes but a random sample of 100 lads or lasses of 18-22 these days? Less than 50 probably.

I think the 50 is pre joining fitness level which you have to have to get on to the 3 day Potential Royal Marine Course. On that their required to do 60 in time to a beep to show strength and upper body stamina.

50 press ups in 2 mins isnโt the test for a Marine itโs part of a fitness test. I think there is very little rest between a swim, run, press ups, pull ups and crunches. Something I saw on you tube. Not sure how accurate the test is to the Marines.

Good going OS. I'm gradually increasing, trying to go as far as I can in set, then 2 mins rest then go again to refusal and repeat once more. My first set is up to 26 in one go.
