Assuming we’re all in tier 4 come April then no races can go ahead under current rules, can they? Even if they are on private land and the race is covid secure then the event would fall foul of the rule where we can’t leave our own area, wouldn’t it? It’s this that’s holding me back from targeting a marathon. Ultras in June will have a chance, I reckon. Big fat zero to start the year by me although I did leave a puddle of peroni under the turbo earlier! On it from tomorrow. Thanks for getting us set up CW. |

I’m in for 2000. I’ve got a couple of races entered - Scafell Sky Race and Ben Nevis Ultra - but wouldn’t be surprised to see those cancelled. So main goal for this year is the same as last year, try and get a Ramsey Round done ![]() |

WW, you've summed up my thoughts really. In terms of the Dartmoor Discovery, with the likelihood of cases dropping in the summer in any case (as they did in 2020), I'm hopeful it'll go ahead, but we'll have to wait and see. It is a small race and in a remote location, so even if the club have to do waved starts I'd like to think it has a chance (I'm probably a bit biased though, as it's my club that organise it!).

Thanks for the setup. I work in metric but I've put myself on a 2021 miles table for now. I aim for about 2600 miles or 80 km/week, same as 2020.

I did a local 10k on private land with wave starts during the second lock down that was permitted under the rules in place at that time. If Boston gets cancelled my second option marathon is in the same place as the 10k was and run by the same people so fingers crossed. However I am more hopeful for autumn rather than spring marathons

You mean Boston, Mass? Boston is a great event but I can't imagine it being done under any kind of lockdown conditions except with a very restricted field. Since 2013 it is organized with even more military precision and the bus convoys in waves to get people to the start is itself an object lesson in logistics that would be totally impractical with any kind of distancing. (It's a point to point course starting way out of town that you are not allowed to approach any other way.) Once there the waiting area is jam-packed and any one of dozens of toilet queue is as big as some races I have been to. Once running, the whole course is lined with yelling spectators, not to mention the ear-splitting noise and kissing when passing the women's Wellesley College. I would prefer to wait for a deferment if offered and do it under “normal” post-2013 conditions. |

I'm getting back into serious running after a couple of years of prioritising work and kids. Definitely think 2021 miles is a decent target. I'm actually a British expat in Connecticut, USA and have just signed up for a HM on 2 May. Hopefully it will go ahead. Mission in the next month is to shift some pounds and get some speed back, then hit a HM training block. 6 miles in the bag today. |

Welcome to the thread Dan and Steve and welcome to Fetch as well Dan! I had a rest day yesterday and have only 5 miles today as I'm in a recovery week in my plan. I don’t think I’ll be above target until the end of next week I have been doing some core and strength work though ![]() fetcheveryone.com/blog/69441 |
