Yellow Fang Well, I've done it now. We got up at 3:00am from the hostel we were staying at, and drove up to the lakes near Ross-on-Wye. We had to swim around one lake, get out into the second lake, swim around that twice and then back into the other lake. I don't think the buoy was in the right place in the second lake, and I got out in about 55 mins. It should have been more like 1:15. I then had to wait several extra minutes waiting for civilians to get out the portaloos before I could continue.
The bike ride was tough. We had to cycle two and a bit times around the course. It was reasonably flat to begin with, but then it started to climb quite severely near English Bicknor. There were some other quite tough climbs too. There were several on the A38 and a really long one going up to Bream. There was a great downhill bit that went on for minutes once you'd got to the top. I was having trouble with my back, which was really hurting. I discovered that a running nose makes a good massage lubricant. There was a village fete going on through one of the villages. I got squirted by someone from a float. I caught up with Rupert around here. I got involved in a competition with one of the other cyclists. I kept reeling him in on the hills, and he kept going away from me once it levelled out. Rupert suffered a puncture just as we were completing the 2nd lap.
I arrived at T2 after around 6:30 hours on the bike. I took a few minutes to eat something and change. The run was five times up and down a trail. Each time we arrived back at the turning point we got another elastic band. The course wasn't too bad. It was a bit uneven underground in some places. My legs felt rubbish, but to start with I wasn't having too many problems. The first 3 laps were fine. I was aware that Rupert was gradually catching me up. I wasn't sure if I had enough of a head start to keep ahead. I was tiring quite badly by the fifth lap and started to walk more bits. Rupert caught me on the way back on the last lap. As I was approaching the finish I looked back and noticed someone just behind. I found some energy for a sprint and would have had him, but I ended up running down the wrong funnel so lost out. Sadly, I think the run was well short, by at least four miles. I was pleased with my position though: 17th place overall out of around 129.

Iron Squishy Only doing the swim bit of this! Would like to beat my IMA time of 1:53 though! I just hope it's not too choppy.

Very short!!! Probably about 800m short in all! Oh well. Didn't like hopping between the lakes very much. I won't be doing this one as a full distance! Pirate Ship Of Fools 1:25:00 1,156.95
