Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The Post Office,

There are four near(ish) to me. But it doesn't matter which one I go to, on what day or time of day, there is always a long and slow queue, and multiple empty serving places.

at one point today there were more than 30 people in the queue (i was so bored i counted them!) and that excludes the 10 or so who left rather than stay and queue. Each person took about 4 minutes to be served - I was just buying a stamp for a parcel and that took at least 2 minutes. In total, i queued for 25 minutes today. There were 5 serving hatches, but only two staffed - often at that particular PO, there's only one member of staff.

The Post Office must consistently be the slowest place on the high street. But thinking about it, hasn't it always been like that? I'm in my 50s now and I cannot recall a time where you'd walk in to a post office and not expect it to have a long, slow queue. Can you?

in the past there was no alternative, but it's no wonder so many people use couriers now.

[I never use a town centre post office, I almost always go to one of the little village ones that are in the village shop. I very rarely have to queue at one of those, but sometimes have to wait for the shopkeeper to finish serving someone at the shop counter before going to the post office counter]

People doing a big shop or ordering coffees in a petrol station shop when all I want to do is pay for my fuel.

People who leave their cars parked at the pump when doing those first two things -these people’s mouth’s should be where the water companies pump their raw sewage

An official spokesperson saying about yesterday's train crash that it is "too early to speculate about it". On the contrary, this is the ideal time to speculate about it. Once the official report is published, it will be too late to speculate.

[I think that the advice was not to speculate, but allow the RAIB to investigate. There are plenty of “experts” out there but it’s best to, let the real experts get in there and do their job and not have to deal with Joe Public’s theories]

We were several minutes in to the race before I realised I was still wearing it...

I got worryingly close to starting a parkrun with my bike helmet once.

quite so, ER. Spokespersons ought to use the correct words, though. Possibly they did and a journalist misquoted.

Handy if there were any low hanging tree branches, Badger. ;)
