Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Tom Ravenscroft - son of John Peel

How can cyclists text while on a bike? I used to get calls from someone while they were cycling. I can't touch the ground from the saddle on my bike; I can't really stop suddenly one-handed.

[RS, whether they can text is obviously to do with how long their legs are..... ;-)
In fairness, I could probably do it but it feels like a life-limiting option to me. It's the braking as you corner that becomes difficult. ;-)]

[WS, I've got one of those. From a cyclist's viewpoint, it's absolutely marvelous. But it is rather like instant ophthalmic surgery if you're on the other side and a bit too close.
I angle mine down when I'm not on the cross-country cycle path, and shade it when I see another cyclist/runner coming towards me. ]

[I saw a bloke cycling to school once, helmet cocked jauntily on his head with the chin strap dangling free/undone, riding no handed, busily texting. Impressive I thought]

Nick Knowles, driving a BMW on the school, run with Sara Cox in the front seat, with Ravenscroft in the car, and his bike stowed on the back, with Zoe ball doing a radio 2 from the other back seat
