Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

What do you know today, that you did not yesterday?

In Britain, the year 1752 was only 354 days long. The 3rd to the 13th of September were missed.

Talk of 'Calendar riots' lacks evidence but the switch from the Old Style - Julian - to New Style - Gregorian calendar must have played havoc with birthdays, and accounts, to name but two.

I know it was nearly 230 years before I was born, but for some reason this still irks me, losing my birthday!

Recto/Verso is another way of saying double sided print. A-La, my client sent a hard copy of a signed form to the Luxembourg tax office from the US to be stamped but it was rejected because the form was not recto/verso.

I also learned at the same time the the Lux tax authorities are a**seholes.

We were quite quick about it. Russia didn't change until after the revolution and the church still counts on the old calendar there.

[I believe the 4 quarter days (lady day and the others) are still used for commercial property rents?]

I had always thought that the original end of the tax year was the spring equinox (March 21). You learn something every day in here…
