I was just curious as to what other club do to distribute their London Marathon places.
At Bushfield Joggers, you need to submit a reject slip, and be a member of the club for more than a year. We have a first round draw for those who haven't had a club place before and then a 2nd draw if places remain for those entering who have previously had a place.
It seems to work and is a fair way of making sure plenty of people get a chance to go to the party. Also the odds are good, last year we had 6 applicants for 5 places.

Son of a Pronator Man
We ask all paid up club members if they want to go into a ballot. All who do want to go in the ballot, names go into a hat Names drawn at a club committee meeting so it is seen to be fairly done Lucky winners get the places, if they can't run for any reason the place comes back to the club for reallocation in the same way. The place belongs to the club, not the member so they can't pass it on.

Rejection slip. Paid up member, with UKA affiliation (as the number of places a club gets is down to UKA affiliated members, NOT club members).

I'm in two clubs.
One has the rule that you must have entered the ballot and been rejected. There are no other rules.
The other doesn't require you to have entered the ballot, but if you got the club place in the last 3 years (I think) you're not entitled to it (unless no-one else enters the club ballot and then, as far as I know, it depends on how long ago you got the place). There used to be a rule that you had to have entered the ballot, but that was removed when they changed the process so it's not as easy to actually enter the ballot as it used to be.

Oh yeah, actually we do say if you got a club place last year then you can't go in the the draw this year. We're always over subscribed.

rejection slip, paid fees. the drawn out of a hat. Last year that resulted in onlt 2 people, so whoever applied got in, the third place went to a lucky person drawn out of a hat who wanted to go.
Basically a lot of our members are aahst at the cost of races these days and we run locally, quite a lot. the Trialthetes are the opposite and go everywhere and pay through the nose.

Half Empty
We used to require a rejection slip but as the ballot is now closing so early we have ditched that requirement. You need to have run a half marathon, run in 3 club champs races (one could be the half) and have at least volunteered to marshall or help during the year.
