I had similar back in June 2010. The problem was mostly in my foot rather than my ankle. The A&E people advised me to walk on it and said it would take 2 weeks before I could run on it. It took me 6 weeks before I ran on it (v impressed with cabletoe) I swam and cycled during that time. Cycling hurt if I got out the saddle.

If your pain is not resolving a visit to your GP could be very helpful, you may need an X-ray to rule out a fracture and he or she will be able to refer.

I had pain in my foot along the equivalent of stander's purple bit, but mine didn't go purple.

Thanks, guys! I think I'll give it a few more days over the weekend then and see how it is on Monday - if it's still not any better, I might do as KatieB suggested and go and see my GP.

I wouldn't, thankyouverymuch.
Cabletwo, not sure whether you've seen my question on the previous page - when should I start with the balance training, and does icing still make sense almost a week after the injury happened?

Sounds sensible, SpicedApple. Make sure you're elevating and icing for the pain. Getting the swelling down will help with reducing the pain. Elevating above your heart is ideal.
Stander...I would not want to look at that.

can you weight bear through it?
Icing after 48 hours is only useful if it reduces pain, elvating is useful as KB says
If you can weight bear through it when walking now is the time to start propriorection training
