Hi,

So I'm having my first tooth out in forever next week, and my dentist recommends no exercise for five or six days afterwards. My problem is I'm in a RunBet and the schedule means I have to run three days after the extraction. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing? I'm pretty fit (training for back to back marathons in October) and the runs I have to do at the weekend are short and can be quite slow.

Thanks!

Laura

I wouldn't have thought a few days off now would impact things in October - ages away. Get some good solid training in beforehand so you'll welcome the rest. Keep active in other ways (walking?) if you're able to. Agreed better to listen the the medical advice as it's not for very long.

I had both my lower wisdom teeth out a few years ago and tried running a few days afterwards (wasn't told either way whether I could or couldn't) - it was really uncomfortable as bizarrely (I didn't expect this), running seems to cause jarring in your jaw area - I left it another few days then all was fine.

Thanks! I’m not worried about losing fitness I’m worried about losing my RunBet! There’s this app where you bet money and commit to following a training plan, if you don’t log the runs, you lose your money (and your pride). It was actually a fellow RunBet competitor who suggested I ask for advice on this forum :)

I think I'd ask the dentist why you have to wait 5 or 6 days. eg If it's to prevent pain like Claire experienced, then you might be able to suck it up and do the minimum distance at a slow pace for the Runbet. If the dentist says you risk infection etc (not quite sure how that would work) or, I dunno, tooth movement (can you tell I'm not a dentist :) ) then you might have to miss it.

If the Runbet pace is just a bit faster than a brisk walk you could potentially run/walk?

Got something to say?
