Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thanks flanker, I don't think I would even attempt the 100. Several friends who are much fitter than me have taken quite a long time so I fear I would not make the cut offs.

shanksi and I plan to walk up the hills and run down them (if possible), and run the flats where we can. It's good that the 50 has the 24 hour limit though.

We walked the Ring of Steall a couple of weeks ago and it is tough with scary ridges. I'm hoping no ridges at L50? Sorry I shouldn't ask here I need to get a map!

Just the one at the end, in the dark...

(Not really, but the final climb, out of Tilberthwaite is considered to be "exposed" by some people.)

There's nothing like the Ring of Steal on the LL50, or the 100 come to that. In fact, I can't think of any place on the course where you go close to the edge of something dodgy or along any ridges etc.

It always amazes me to see the speed at which some people go over Devil's Ridge. On the Ramsey it's an out and back and people do this (at speed) in Winter .... just insane.

Hmmm. I see what you mean JD, but it's not really exposed is it? I suppose it might seem that way to some.

NE we saw a couple of proper runners in shorts and vest running happily along the ridges. They must have nerves of steel.

I was OK walking except for a couple of places where I was quite nervous and holding on for dear life as I gingerly stepped round some rocks while trying not to look down. We had excellent visibility.

It's a long way down from the top of DR isn't it? :-)

Tell you what, I don't want to stray too far off topic, but I went down the North ridge of Mellbreak the other day, the one that leads to Kirkstile and Loweswater: That is a seriously dodgy descent and has a hell of an exposed drop at a couple of places, I can see why it's out of bounds on the Buttermere-Sailbeck race!

I'm looking forward to seeing Dave's support pompoms. And Phoebe's for that matter ;-)

There's nothing scary on the 50 at all ☺

Wouldn't call the last leg exposed at all really - its all pretty wide track. The only point I can think off that is vaguely exposed on the 100 is coming over Black Sail. If you pick the less-optimal lines you can end up close to the edge of small crags.

Following on from NE's straying :) It's the sky races that get me. The Lakes one runs up the grade 3 scramble on Pinnacle Ridge, and the Glen Coe one does even dafter things. I'd think long and hard about attempting those climbs without a rope.

(Or maybe I'm just getting old and aware of my own mortality, whereas 20 years ago I'd not have thought twice!)
