In the interests of full disclosure, todays route pic - from the other side. It wasn't quite the solitary experience the published photo suggests! |

We did see quite a few of them ... this was Cairns main esplanade. There was one up near Cape Trib on the Dubuji Boardwalk, by then a muddy path through mangrove type swamp, where I didn't feel like stopping for a photo. But we only ever saw crocs in wildlife parks (although after the floods, crocs were turning up in all sorts of unusual places & radio alerts were common, suddenly parks or recs would be closed pending croc relocation). And interestingly, crocs cause more injuries & deaths out there than sharks or snakes, although not as widely publicised. At one point, I did think about an 007 style croc run - but decided against it |

Ha! The closest we came was at Hartley's Crocodile Adventures! And that was close enough - they are huge! crocodileadventures.com |

Eep! I feel somewhat claustrophobic just looking at it. Hard to believe it was taken from a green oasis. I like the waterfall better :-). |

HK was extreme contrasts. Whether rich/poor, western/chinese, high rise/forest - and city walks were 3 dimensional (either below ground in malls, ground level or mid level covered walkways a few floors up). Road maps were nothing like walking routes. I can recommend walking up the peak (vs train) to save a few hours queuing and see some of the parks, back streets, and as you get higher, the 'colonial' housing. |
