Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

It's about the piers not the town/county it's in - I'm not looking beyond Southend Pier (if you're looking at the pier then the town is behind you out of sight):

- the longest in the world

- train service along it

- decent modern architecture in the 2012 Royal Pavilion

Longest isn't best. In fact it's a positive disadvantage if you want to get off it quickly without getting wet.

I did Aberystwyth parkrun a few years ago. My fifteen year old son and his mate came with me, but didn't want to run, so I gave them some cash, thinking they would go to the amusement arcades etc. on the pier. Instead they went to a pub and ordered a cooked breakfast. The man serving them asked if any parents would be joining them and being dozy teenagers, they told him that I was "on the run." Luckily, he didn't call the police, but he did burst out laughing when I turned up in shorts & trainers half an hour later.
