Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

About an hour ago, I caught the littlest toe of my left foot on the table leg and it hurt so much I fell over. It's still unbelievably painful. I'm here on my own tonight and Smallest is in bed but in any case I'm not sure a trip to A&E makes any sense, except that it's so painful it's making me feel sick and the pain has travelled all the way up the side of the foot and the left side of my leg to just above the back of my knee.
Does anyone have any idea whether this is just a case of paracetamol and sleeping it off or is there something else I should be doing?

Reduce possible swelling by immersing the poor tootsie in a bowl of cold water. I'll make way for the medicos now. Hope you feel better soon, JenL.

Ow ow ow ow ow!!

How is it now? Any improvement? I would have taken double the recommended quantity of painkillers - paracetamol, codeine and ibuprofen (possibly with a glass of wine) and tried not to move....

Thanks swittle and cyclops. I'm sort of rooted to the sofa at the moment, with the leg elevated. I took some painkillers about 15 mins ago (Nurofen was all I could find). Getting them and a glass of water was a major operation and then swallowing them down when I just want to be sick wasn't easy. I'm not noticing much difference so far, but I'm trying to stay optimistic. The pain comes in waves with not much of an interval between. I just keep trying to remind myself that it isn't as bad as labour. It's always the really stupid injuries, isn't it?

An extension to water immersion: two bowls of suitable size, one filled with cold, the other with very warm [not hot] water. Place the foot in each in turn, maybe 3-4 minutes each. Finish with the warm:)

I'm a fan of aspirin to relieve swelling: your toe *will* be bruised.
