I always go out too fast but 6/1 is just ridiculous. Will I ever learn? (Probably not)

D2D, you know a fair few runners from local clubs, so why not try finding one that ususally runs around the time that you are aiming for and then go with them. Will keep you from going too fast at the start and will hopefully help drag you along if needed for the last mile or so

I'm surprised you didn't hear the strange noises I was making though, You weren't too far in front of me

Half Empty - Didn't recognise anyone last night, only a friend of mine from Sphinx AC but he ran slower than me. Plus, you never know what time they will run. I saw a runner I recognised from Banbury at Weston but she ran about 4 minutes slower than her PB so can't always reassure on other people to pace you. May do this at Town & Gown though... are you in for that?

I'm marshalling at T&G so will see you as you fly past. I suppose if they do start slower then you can gradually pick the pace up a bit, get the satisfaction of passing people rather than spending most of the race being passed! It will still fulfill the purpose of making sure you don't burn yourself out in the first mile

Yes, I do need to curb my enthusiasm at the start - it's always been a problem for me. I just can't wait to get going though, it's like in marathons, first half I always run about same as HM pace and then just die from about 18 miles on. Oh well, not the end of the world. Plus some guy who lives round the corner from me (who I'd never met before!) let me follow him home. Seemed like a good plan 'til he turned into Lewis Hamilton 90mph on the d/c way! Aaaargh.

Nowhere near your splits, D2D, but I didn't think they were too inconsistent - the slowest mile was, I think, the one when I was being blown backwards ....

Also, new club FV50 record for me (OK, it was a pretty soft one, but a record is a record .... )
