Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I have a dawn simiulator alarm clock thingie and I really like it. I don't really have SAD but I find being wrenched from deep sleep in the pitch black dead of winter really hard to cope with. Mine gradually lightens then beeps at the pre-set time just in case the light doesn't wake you up, but I find I'm always awake by the time it beeps. It makes waking and getting up in winter much easier for me.

I have one like Oysterboy's. A Phillips one. I don't use the alarm sound on it but I like the gradual wakeup, though I'm still rubbish at getting out of bed! It's a few years old so came with traditional lightbulbs, so I have to use a specific bulb for it now (which is energy saving but still quite a lot of watts), and it still buzzes a bit though the sound is supposedly off.
It's not the most attractive sort of light but that doesn't really bother me.

I also have one of those Dawn Simulator alarms. Absolute godsend in the winter months.

Had it for about 5 years - great investment.

I have a SAD variant. I don't get the carbohydrate cravings, but get everything else, the depression, hyper somnolence etc. if you're going for a treatment dose of light it needs to be 10,000 lux at a distance of 45 - 60 centimetres for 30 - 60 minutes, dependent on your own needs.

I've had mine for a good 8 years and I can't remember the brand or see it online. I'll check tonight and let you know.
