Great weekend, fantastic weather although maybe a little hot for ultrarunning. Never realistically thought I'd finish it but was happy to get to Kentmere pain free, wasn't going to risk any silly accidents in the dark after that.

Not in the same league, but my first silly accident came going down the lane that leads to Troutbeck. Flat out on the stones, ripped the pages off my nice shiny road book and banged up my hands and hip. Good job it was dark. There were one or two other incidents, probably due to tiredness but wondering about my shoes.

Gutted to read that you must have fallen shortly after I left you, FR. You seemed to be feeling positive about the race when you arrived back. Hopefully you can find those good vibes.

Congratulation to all those who competed, whether you finished it or not. Those in the vicinity of Ambleside at about midnight may have seen a procession of MTBers racing in the other direction, one of which was me ![]() |

I'm so glad i decided to start the race on friday morning . The climbs and terrain on the first 40 miles were wonderfully brutal . I've now changed my plans for next year when hopefully im fully fit to target this race and two other only. I just hope its not as bloody hot ! oh and great to meet so many fetchies in the event. and fenland , you aren't half hard on yourself mate!! it was the hottest day of the year and no breeze at all -i think that was the biggest factor in so many!! You did brilliant. |

It was horrendously hot, I was dripping v (nice) the whole way. Just managed to avoid getting the head torch out which was a real incentive. Great race good to meet some of the fetchies, maybe we should have more of an obvious greeting so we can recognice each other...

I was coming up Garburn Pass when the mountain bikers were coming down - amazing. Thought to begin with it was just a couple of peeps out for a night ride, but soon they were soon coming thick and fast. Met more coming through the woods, a bit later. Is the whole world full of nutters doing crazy things in the dark, and that includes me. (I'm sure one of the lady mountain bikes apologised in German, but that may just have been in my head).

I don't think there were any Germans, but I may be wrong. it was the Open24 (www.openadventure.com) and the field wasn't *that* big. I don't think the Lakes is normally quite so full of 'nutters doing crazy things in the dark' as it was this weekend! |
