Thanks so much for the advice! Really helpful. Sounds like best to go little and light. I suppose it’s a learning experience.

Is it Run to The Sea? I’m running that and it’s my first 50K so interested on the advice. For now I was just thinking of a bum bag for a few gels or flapjacks and maybe a hand bottle but when I see the info on the stations (if they send out some info) then Imight decide they are close enough to each other and you don’t need to carry anything.

Welcome to Fetch rwelpton ![]() I wore a waist belt for my first 50K, having run all marathon long runs with one - but converted to a vest and found them much more comfortable - unless it's really warm. As they have said ^ Decathlon do sensibly priced versions of everything, best to see which you are happier with without spending a fortune first. There is an Ultramarathon beginners thread on here and lots of good advice an friendly chat on the forum. Hang around and let us know how you get on ![]() |

For my first ultra (and for training - I was inspired by Anton Krupicka who used the same, get me) I had a Nathan Quickdraw like this: 1.bp.blogspot.com Super-unsophisticated, although for long runs I needed to tuck some change into a pocket so I could stop at corner shops for a refill. More recently I've used it for a lapped ultra. It was easy to just pick up another 500ml bottle at the end of the lap and stuff it into the holder. |

The main thing is to take as little weight as you can get away with. If its only 10km between aid stations then you don't need to carry that much water or fuel (depending on how the aid stations are stocked). A vest/run-specific pack is useful because it allows you to put essentials in easy access pockets meaning you don't have to be repeatedly taking off your backpack. it should also not bounce too much and therefore be a bit easier on your back |

Thanks...what I really like about this is I have no idea about what time I’ll do it in...and I really don’t care, just want to go out in the countryside and run
