Is it time yet?
Anybody had any experience of Nitecore headlights? They seem to be popular on American backpacker Youtube. Cheap trash or Petzl killers?

Have you checked whether the Youtube videos indicate product placement?

I don't use my headtorch a great deal, but it's been great when I have - it's a Ledlenser NEO10R. I don't know if they still make that model. Our MOTM winners have been getting Ledlenser goodies - and I think they've all been pretty happy with them.

I have an old LEDLenser. It's quite good, but it let me down in the rain once, so I don't have great faith in it. And it is definitely old technology now.
I have had 3 Alpkit ones, which were OK. The first fell apart, the second melted (!!), and now my newest one has cracked. Cheap and cheerful, or short lived junk depending on your perspective (as all things Alpkit).
Wife has a Petzl which is rock solid, but heavy and expensive.

Melted as in how?
I'm intrigued because I quite like my Alpkits. Cheap and do the job, though the first went after I think I let / left water to get in the electronics. But I was happy enough to buy a second one. However, returning to my question, my second now the pad for the head seems to have melted.
I've had or seen reviews for much more expensive ones that aren't necessarily value.

LEDLenser for me. Had a Hope for years, but it now feels heavy and dare I say it overpowered

It was a battery in the same compartment as the light, at the front style, not with the battery in a second holder on the back of your head. At some point I could smell burning, but couldn't work out what it was. The next time I went to use the headlight I noticed the plastic had melted; it looked and smelled like burnt plastic. It was old, so I binned it.

Yeah, mine's the pad in front of the light (battery in the back - though I can't find the model so think it might be discontinued). I'm completely uncertain how it's melted as it's not the plastic itself.
