Friend of mine told me I MUST get one to do GeoCaching, but then another friend said 'don't be daft, your smart phone is as good and doesn't involve spending any extra money!' Might not suit what you need, but might be worth considering at least.

Garmin 62s is the one I use. Bit too advanced for what I need but if you're techy then it would suit you.
