Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The other day I got quite smug when crossing the 2500 puzzle rating mark.

Then whilst checking out the puzzle leaderboard of another of my clubs, I came across this guy:

chess.com

His puzzle rating is 47,000 - down from a high of 50,000.

His puzzle survival best is 189, his 5 minute best is 51 - that’s one correct every 3.5 seconds or so.

I’m pretty sure he’s legit - one wrong puzzle the other day cost him -450 rating points, correct ones gain him +5.

Blimey!
Just pushed my puzzle rating over 1500 but now of course the puzzles have got harder and it’s dropped again. My max on survival is 22 but most days I get about 18

I was close to 1400 for ages but not quite there. Then I got the 1400 and immediately failed all the next puzzles, ending up below 1300. Not sure why so bad. Back to low to mid 1300's now.

That happens to me. Got from 1400 to 1500 fairly smoothly but usually once I’m over the next hurdle I fall right back. I think it’s because they make the puzzles harder. When you lose a few they get easier again.

If you click on the circular symbol at the top right of the app you can see the difficulty of the ones you’ve done. And repeat them if you so fancy.

I never knew about that top right click - thanks Meg.

I’ve found it’s quite easy to lose a lot of puzzle ranking in a short time by ploughing on after a few wrong answers. Suddenly that’s 50+ points gone in a few minutes, wiping out days of careful rating gains.
