Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

the 'body sensing' stuff which comes early on in the chi running book is a bit strange but I see the point, it helps you recognise your running form without the use of video or mirrors, I think.

I have been attempting to change my running style this year from heel striking to fore/mid foot striking, I bought the Chi book and DVD last December while I was recovering from injury and when I restarted my running in January I have attempted to implement some of the principles. I have been mainly concentrating on the posture , the forefoot landing, leaning from the ankles and increasing my cadence. So far I think it has been working very well, certainly I have knocked a lot of time of my HM PB and so far (touch wood) I have stayed totally injury free this year.

Very deffo a heel striker and arm crosser, this morning I concentrated on the arms though hopefully they did not cross this morning and hopefully the knees were more bent at touch down

Steve I am so glad to hear that as I was getting concerned that there was too much Americano hype around this Chi thing and that it was going to prove a load of old pants.

I think you have to just find what works for you. I'm not really into the Chi (spiritual/energy flow) side of things, but a lot of the running technique and posture seems to be working for me, whether I would have made the same improvements anyway I will never no for sure, but I didn't think I would ever do the times I have been doing so far this year especially so soon after coming back from injury. 3 months is not very long but I guess time will tell if I continue to stay injury free.

Yes the knee hurts a little tonight and as I sit here I am contemplating a rest tomorrow. I am getting very despondant as my mileage has dropped dramatically and is getting worse. I am not sure that is mainly due to the fact that everyone else seems to be running so well with FLM coming up, whether I should know better but I feel as if i am back to square one again and may retire from Running. (I never do learn though as with every injury I feel like this)

I will try again tomorrow and I will try the hip swing thing, keeping the arms and feet pointing straight ahead and see what happens.

Andrew if you go faster and with less efort utilising Chi why dont you utilise it all the time?

About This Thread

Maintained by fetcheveryone
Chi Running is a running technique which was developed by Danny Dreyer an ultra marathon runner who is a long time runner and student of T’ai Chi. The two main themes are energy efficiency and injury prevention. It combines the central movement principles of T’ai Chi with the sport of running to create a technique that shifts the workload toward your core muscles, allowing your leg muscles to work less. The results are increased efficiency and a significant reduction in injuries.
