Thanks Cam. Had forgotten about this old thread.

Strange how my post from 2016 would be mirrored for last weekend - except I was 45 minutes slower again this year. But what a fantastic race/event/weekend. A wee bit of ultra magic with maybe some of the best views in the UK - snow-dusted Scottish mountains, rolling Perthsire countryside, moors and hills, blue, blue skies all day long.

I managed to keep going until 1am (after a 5am start) before a cosy night in my tent. Definitely one of the best race weekends ever. :-)

Time to wake this thread up again :-)

I've just entered, my longest run to date is the Devil at 42 miles, time to go a bit further :-o

I've done the mini-Cateran trail before, ie the top 20 miles, as a training run pkct.org not sure if I'll recce the rest, or just explore it on the day :-)

Current plan is D33 as longest training run, but maybe would be better with something with a few more hills in it ??

Merry Christmas and Happy NewG(rrr)
It's not that hilly Gus. Not compared to what you are used to. Just the 1,000 off feet at the end. It's more just the total distance, if you don't often do 50 plus. Lovely route all round, fab event. Chance to go pretty quickly as it's all very runnable trails, bits of tarmac etc. Again, except for the long slog up Glenshee at the end! :-) G

7500 feet sounds a lot to me ! Take off the 1000 ft for the last climb and still 6500 ft over 50 miles.
Just been off to check and coincidentally the Devil is 6500 ft over 42 miles, so ignoring the last climb less hilly than the Devil :-p
But yeah just a case of taking it steady and enjoying the scenery, lovely part of the world.

I can't think where there are any significant hills except the end Gus. Seriously 6000ft in 16 miles of Pentlands, that's hilly, 6000ft in 50 miles is just "undulating"! I'll have to look at the profile to see where I'm not remembering some climbs! There were some steady uphill drags on tarmac, but that's just plod on type stuff. Nothing that takes it out of quads or calves. Anyhoo, you'll be grand! :-) G

It certainly is a great route Gus. I have five quaichs from it, and lots of good memories, eventhough each time I did it was 2 or 3 weeks after the Highland Fling.

There certainly are a fair few climbs and I do remember each one well: leaving the road after about 10/11 miles, after the Glenisla CP, en route to the Den of Alyth - twice! Big climb after Blairgowrie and another one to the high ground before Bridge of Cally. Then it undulates! How could you forget all of them HappyG?!!! But they're all part of the fun.

Thanks _andy, just been checking one of your route profiles against those notes.

Can't imagine doing this just 2 or 3 weeks after Fling - respect !!

It's definitely not flat. It starts on a hill.
