Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'm now well into marathon training for Edinburgh, and I need to find a useful thingy to carry water & food in for the long training runs. Tried a belt and didn't really get on with it. I've now seen a backpack in our local running shop for £15. you can put a water bladder/food in it and even has space for an mp3 player. Thing is, I've never been sure about running with one. Are they generally as comfortable as the label claims, or is it like running with a rucksack full of water? this weekend I'll be up to 22 miles, so it needs to be quite Comfortable. I'd appreciate anyones experiences with this bit of kit.

May I enquire as to the quantity of water you drink during your longer runs?

I absolutely HATE carrying anything but I find my Camelbak ace. Barely know it's there really; doesn't move about and is light. Well worth it. And I never thought I'd say that. I've previously nearly died from dehydration rather than carry anything.

You just need to get the air out to stop it being sloshy.

Puddington raises a good point about expelling air prior to the run.

expelling air? Don't forget to breathe in every now and again.

Thanks all - I'm rubbish at drinking Keefy, which is part of the reason for getting something. However, when I tried the belt, I got through 5 of those little bottles on a 20 mile run. So probably about 2 'normal' running bottles worth. ish.

Could be a good idea then. Carrying one bottle I can do, but two wouldn't work. Go for it.
