If you keep them clean then no they don't go all manky. Been using them for years mountain biking and never had any issues with them.

I keep mine in the freezer to stop potential build-up of anything.

Perhaps that's why you get separate water bladders? once they get manky you can throw them away?

Mine has all kinds of furry black shit in it.
I use baby sterilising tabs to clean it out.

As to the initial question, I think the biggest problem is bouncing. Make sure you get a running one that you can fasten across the chest and/or wist.

A lot of them are for bikers and pedalling doesnt produce as much bounce as running.

Once you get the right one they are very comfy and useful.

These ones Mac edgecastcdn.net

Start them young enough and they are so crippled with respiratory disease by the age of 16 that they couldn't impregnate a gnat.

I've had a camelback for a couple of years and use it a lot for long runs. It's really comfy and has plenty of space for a few bits and pieces. Like Red Squirrel, I put the bladder in the freezer when I'm not using it and it has stayed gremlin free.

Got something to say?
