Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Just back from a 10k. Used EDMR for the first 3k, some fave choons for the next 3k that don't sync with my cadence, then synchronous stuff for the next 3k. Difficult to gauge pace because of where the hills are, but the fave choons section was the most fun and synchronous seemed to be kicking my pace up a bit even though I was more tired by that point. I don't think EDMR did much for me, but that might be because I spend a lot of the day in front of a laptop immersed in marking at the moment, so want a bit of energy and excitement rather than calming down. Interested to see what other people's experiences are, and if I needed a calming-down run I'd consider EDMR and see what the effect was then (my default would normally be chilled classical for de-stressing).

Okay, I have sort of tried this. Not with running but with my indoor bike. I stuck this on an iPad which is mounted above and beyond the handlebars.

It's an EMDR soundscape with binaural beats. I'm not entirely sure if I like it or not yet. The beats seemed to be about 1.2 to 1.3 seconds apart which struck me as a little weird. Is 1 second not optimal or something? Still, it was a pleasant change and I'll give it another go.

PS - I think it's EMDR rather than EDMR (as per the thread title) - Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing

Chatting to a colleague yesterday who coincidentally is researching EMDR in his other job, though not with music. From what I can gather, it will be the state of mind you're in/want to achieve that will get the result, so me being quite calm and a bit bored after a morning working, then going out for a run to pep me up, is probably not ideal for it to have a positive effect. it might be worth anyone trying it out to note their pre-exercise mood, and what they'd like to feel during exercise. I suspect it's most effective at combatting high levels of arousal from negative stuff.

EMDR didn't seem to be on the radar with the music-and-exercise-psychology people I spoke to today (I did bring it up), although TBH there are so many under-researched topics that it's perhaps a bit niche to get much of a look-in for now.

So EDMR music is the sort of music used when you treat yourself at the spa to a massage that doesn't sort your calf's out properly but you do finish up feeling completely zoned out.

So, given that running for me is often an excuse to empty my mind and de-stress - I thought to myself - why not have a go at EDMR music instead of ACDC/Europe/96BPM and indeed Radio2 of an evening with their happy hour.

It's got no beat and it's just gentle wishy washy sounds - hows that go...
