Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Any advice before I surgically remove my own metatarsals?

Hello you lovely even vaguely medically-related people. I have a pain on top of the foot. It feels like it is in the space between the 1st and 2nd metatarsal. There is no pain by pressing hard on the bones. It is quite sharp if I poke it, but quite dull otherwise. It is very noticeable on cold muscles - I had to alter my gait when I woke up - but is barely there when warm. I am 2 weeks away from a target 10K race and I don't want to jeopardise this by running on it if it is likely to make it worse, but I don't want to stop running if I don't need to and can deal with it with a dose of ibu and some HTFU. Any thoughts?

Use a general anaesthetic before attempting self-surgery.

Try loosening off the lacing on ALL your shoes/trainers. I use fieggen.com for lacing. Withbthis method, you can iss out eyeholes on the trainers that are level with the pain.

first piece of advice - don't

is the pain limited to one spot? is it in the cleft between the toes, or further back on the foot?

HB. Yes, one spot only. On top of the foot, in the middle-ish lengthways.

Stress fracture is still a possiblity, though less likely if the bone itself isn't tender
I think you'd be unlikely to do any harm running on it, but would suggest an fmail to Cabletow as he is wiser than me in these things
