I thought most of the confessions were harmless and fun. Sorry to miss the one confession that has upset some. Looked up Gender Critical, I can see why some think it’s right wing. |

The "Right wing" position is that men are men and women are women and should stick to the coded behaviours and roles in society. The gender critical position is simply that sex matters in some situations, such as sports, prisons, health care settings etc. The trans rights view is that only "gender" matters to the point of male sex offenders being put in women's prisons. |

It occurs to me that some people may not realise that TERF is not a free-standing term but actually has a derivation. Trans exclusionary radical feminist. It was as also originally used in a fairly specific context, as as descriptor of lesbian women who refused the demands of, generally biologically complete, men identifying as women who wanted to have sex with them. It seems to me that the right not to have sex with someone you don't want to, for whatever reason is a very fundamental human freedom. Putting those who would oppose it very much in the wrong. Something to think on, perhaps, the next time you read someone describing someone else (generally a woman questioning the abrogation of their sex-based rights) as a TERF. |

Can I echo the suggestions that this issue is best dealt with in its own thread, as I suggested earlier? I would guess that most of the watchers are here to guess who painted their brother’s hamster green etc. I have been asked by a couple of people to delete this thread, but I would much prefer it if all parties take responsibility for ensuring that our forum is a respectful place. |
